In November 2019, 28 young amateur performers and musicians joined forces with 13 professional dancers and musicians from the city theatre's dance company-in-residence Unusual Symptoms in Bremen, Germany. Receiving directions from choreographer Samir Akika, they created a performance laboratory in which they toyed with identity while conjuring up unforeseen events. Their adventurous findings concluded in a three-and-a-half-hour musical performance spectacle called “Young dogs do cry sometimes” in February 2020. This wild, multi-coloured ride definitely took on literally anything and everything you feel and think about, from exactly the point when your life is about to embark on its own journey. But after just two shows, everything was brought to a halt by the pandemic. Spring and summer passed by, bringing many changes to everyone's lives. Then, producers jayrope & Andy Zondag decided to adapt the original stage piece for a 12”, delving deep into original recordings, letting them evolve. The original performers and musicians were asked to partly re-record their contributions and to comment on their new “now” as well. This album is not a dance piece. However, it brings back the spirit of a stage drunk on creativity, filled with dance, spoken word poetry, fuelled by music from a wide variety of genres. Welcome to the waiting room of happiness.
